So at 8 pm on Saturday we’ll be recording a very special episode of Beyond The Wall. It’ll be our normal discussion format, but with a live audience at Balticon 46 in Hunt Valley, MD.
We’ll be live. We’ll attempt to be funny. We’ll be giving away prizes. We’ll be inebriated (most likely), especially if we play the Game of Thrones Drinking Game. If you are nearby, please come out and see us!
In addition, I (P.G. Holyfield) will be on some other panels during the convention:
Saturday 10 pm – Dramatization or Straight Read (Salon B)
Sunday 9 am – Religious Systems (Salon B)
Sunday 9 pm – Stargazers audio Drama (Derby)
Sunday 10 pm – Reading (Chase)
Monday 11 am – Serialized Science Fiction – the New Pulps (Derby)
Balticon is my favorite convention of the year. It’s small, it’s intimate, and it’s fun. Seriously… you know you want to come.

Hey hey
Just some advice, make sure you test and retest the sound recording devices that you use so that everything is working, also if possible record to 2 computers because one will of course crash when you need it the most. 2 Laptops should be possible to bring, and dont forget batteries.
It might be good if everyone is wearing their microphone because people move around and turn around.
If possible bring some kind of movable walls or something to close of an area so that the sound dosent go crazy.

And above all have fun, and do not panic if it all goes down the crapper 🙂
Thanks for the suggestions, Max. We'll have multiple H4n's going, plus the convention records all the panels with audio guys in the room. Recording will be the least of our problems. Sobriety, however, will be a crapshoot.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I ALWAYS FORGET TO COMMENT ABOUT THIS
They have potatoes in Game of Thrones
THE BIG QUESTION IS
Do they know how to make Vodka?
Vodka is made from Potatoes
The Irish had Potatoes and never figured it out, but the Russians did
Saw the show live, and am looking forward to hearing the podcast (since they teased the audience by telling us that they would record even more stuff! Tease!)
Often, with the exception of Christiana, you guys do not share at all the interpretation of the episode with the producers
Before each episode review but after you have seen the episode ALL you guys should watch the ”inside the episode” extra thing on hbo.com
You do not need to download or register sing up or in to see it, all you need to do is click here
http://www.hbo.com/game-of-thrones/index.html
Then look down to the left click the button EPISODES, wait a few moments then click which episode you want to talk about and select the option “inside the episode”
It is usually 5-10 min long and it is the producers talking about the episode, all free no need for registration or download
This post here has nothing really to do with the live show I just wanted to inform you all 🙂
Nice tip! Viv and I have full access to HBOGo, but a lack of time.. I'll try to remember to check it out for ep9 and ep10.
Just to clarify anyone at any time regardless of membership or access can see this free extra stuff
All that is needed are 4 clicks
Go to the page
Click the button episodes down to the left
Click the picture of the specific episode you want to see extra stuff on
Click the button “inside the episode”
I was thinking you guys could watch them whilst pg gets Skype up and running before you start pod casting but are waiting for a connection, that way you can use your time more efficiently
Alas that is something I must rely on my cohosts for as I am region blocked from such awesomeness 🙁
Youtube
Season 2 episode 19, inside the episode 4min 46 sec
🙂
I do watch all of the HBOGo extras before we record. If there are things I think are cool, I try to mention them, but I'm more interested in our reactions than the producers comments (in most cases). 😉
You are not region blocked to see this free extra stuff
I live outside the US and can see it, you might be region blocked to see the whole episode but not, I say again, but not to see this free extra stuff
All you need is to click 4 times
http://www.hbo.com/game-of-thrones/index.html Wait a few moments before the page loades
Click the button episodes down to the left
Click the specific episode you wish to see on the screen in on of the smaller windows
Click the option "inside the episode"
No one anywhere is region blocked to see this
One, it's not on HBO Canada, which is where I automatically go
Two, I did dig into HBO usa to find the one for this week's episode and honestly, meh. No offense to the people putting this stuff out there but it didn't really enhance my viewing of the episode, perhaps it might for someone not familiar with the characters as much (and I remind you I only watched for Episode 9) but I could see my time spent better elsewhere.
Thirdly, I feel like if someone wanted that information, they could go to HBO.com and get it themselves. This is why I don't recap what the Mary Sue says about the show, or OatakuAssemble(sp) or any of the other places online where you can clearly find opinions and information about the show. If there is something a producer says, or a writer that should be of note, sure, but our shows run long enough as it is, don't you think? Can't have our listeners having to buy bigger mp3 players just for us 🙂
Lastly, I don't think you have a full idea of what our weekly casts are like behind the scenes, we are never waiting on PG to set things up. I know you are trying to be helpful but these little assumptions take me out of left field when I read them. Thanks
🙂
You know nothing, Max Tesla…heehee
Hehe 🙂
Nice! Ygritte, that rocked!
just wondering when the next episode will be up? So far I've found this podcast to be one of the best balances of gut opinion, informed knowledge and attention to the storytelling of the series. Many podcasts have hosts forming opionions about aspects of the shows missing many details, scenes of dialogue/exposition that often answer the nitpicks they have or lapses in storytelling they percieve. While I'm not subscribing to the belief that the show is without it's missteps it does make for frustrating listening when the show has paid careful attention to it's internal logic only to be missed by certain hosts. So I thank you guys for not being guilty of this.
I hope to release Ep. 8 in the next 24 hours, and then I'll immediately start work on ep.9 that was recorded last Thursday. We'll be recording ep. 10 tomorrow evening, and I will get on that as well. Thanks for your patience, and I'm glad you've enjoyed the show so far!
thanks a lot Peter, you and the rest of our fans are the best online anywhere!
