Six months ago a group of intrepid podcasters recorded a Season 2 Review and feedback podcast. Would you believe I was in a coma for awhile? Went to space for a month or three? Yeah, yeah, things just got away from me. But here it is. We hope you enjoy it!

Living NaNoWriMo

I have participated in NaNoWriMo on three different occasions (2006,2007, and 2009). The most I’ve ever written was the first year, when I managed to crank out 36,000 words on Murder at Avedon Hill. This year I will be ‘doing NaNo,’ and I’ve invited some friends to join me on this journey. You might know some of these writers, and podcasters (and one is best known as an astronomer), but these are all friends that are going to take time before November 1st and and take time away from writing during November to share their experiences, and in so doing, I hope we will help each other succeed at this.

For those of you that don’t know, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month, November, and the goal of NaNo is to write 50,000 words in 30 days.

More on this in the next couple of days, including information on the “Kick-off Hangouts,” which will take place on Sunday afternoon and evening.

So what will “Living NaNoWriMo” be? It will consist of several Google Hangouts, longer form ones prior to November first, and then shorter ones during the month. I will be creating a page here on the site which will list the google hangout schedule, and I hope you’ll stop by and ask questions, and cheer us on. It’s all about ‘accountability’ and ‘supporting each other,’ and if you are doing NaNo as well, I hope we will be able to support you on your journey as well.

Who are the participants that will be joining me on this journey?

  • Pamela Gay, astronomer, writer, and podcaster (Astronomy Cast)
  • Justin Macumber, writer and podcaster (The Dead Robot’s Society)
  • Starla Huchton, writer, graphic designer, musician, podcaster (The Dreamer’s Thread)
  • Zachary Ricks, writer, publisher, attorney, podcaster (The Galley Table Podcast)
  • Nicole Ireland, writer, blogger (A Second Chance)
  • Martyn Casserly, journalist, musician, writer (Living with the Future)

And of course me, P.G. Holyfield, proprietor of SpecFicMedia.com and author of Murder at Avedon Hill. Come back tomorrow for more information on the google hangouts that will take place on Sunday.

TuacaCon 2011 – Charity Element…

Not playing this up too much since TuacaCon is sort of a drinking event disguised as a live author/musician share your work sort of thing, but during the live-streaming event I will be mentioning a charity that I and many podcasters have supported in the past, The Leiomyosarcoma Direct Research Fund.

Joe Murphy (Kick-Ass Mystic Ninjas, Michael and Evo’s Wingin’ It) was an early podcaster that inspired many of us to get out here and do our thing. He passed away from Leiomyosarcoma in 2007. If we can raise a little money for cancer research while we drink and share some great fiction and music with you guys, it’ll be a great evening.

TuacaCon 2011

Good morning, P.G. Holyfield here. TuacaCon is a virtual convention that I started last year. Tuaca became one of the “liquors of choice” at the conventions I attend (most notably Balticon and Dragon*Con), and became the ‘unofficial’ mascot of the convention (The company that makes this wonderful liquer is not associated with the convention or with SpecFicMedia.com in any way, other than we like the stuff!).

So what is TuacaCon? Last year in November, we had a 9 hour live “show” online, with author readings, interviews, live music, and live and recorded comedic skits from several podcasters across the U.S. We used UStream.tv for the broadcast, and had a lot of fun with the event (even though I might have imbibed a little too much and fell asleep at the wheel near the end of the night).

This year I plan on doing things right (or at least a little better), with more contributors, the addition of panels on pertinent speculative fiction topics, and more interaction with our audience (well, some of our audience, not the ones that post “Show my your boobs!” in the chat… oh yeah, that was me.).

If you are a writer, musician, or comedian that has the ability to do webcam work (or prerecorded video, in certain cases), please comment here or send me an email at pgholyfield at specficmedia.com. TuacaCon 2011 will be Saturday, November 12th, starting time and duration of the event yet to be determined at this time. I will start organizing this ‘convention’ in earnest starting October 1st.
