Movie Trailer – Hanna

A thriller, but there seems to be a speculative fiction bent to it… or at least it looks like Eric Bana is finally in a decent movie.

Book Trailer – Wither

Wither – Book 1 of The Chemical Garden Trilogy, by Lauren DeStefano

By age sixteen, Rhine Ellery has four years left to live. She can thank modern science for this genetic time bomb. A botched effort to create a perfect race has left all males with a lifespan of 25 years, and females with a lifespan of 20 years. Geneticists are seeking a miracle antidote to restore the human race, desperate orphans crowd the population, crime and poverty have skyrocketed, and young girls are being kidnapped and sold as polygamous brides to bear more children.

When Rhine is kidnapped and sold as a bride, she vows to do all she can to escape. Her husband, Linden, is hopelessly in love with her, and Rhine can’t bring herself to hate him as much as she’d like to. He opens her to a magical world of wealth and illusion she never thought existed, and it almost makes it possible to ignore the clock ticking away her short life. But Rhine quickly learns that not everything in her new husband’s strange world is what it seems. Her father-in-law, an eccentric doctor bent on finding the antidote, is hoarding corpses in the basement. Her fellow sister wives are to be trusted one day and feared the next, and Rhine is desperate to communicate to her twin brother that she is safe and alive. Will Rhine be able to escape–before her time runs out?

Movie Trailer – Space Battleship Yamato

In the late 70s/early 80s there was a Japanese anime series called Space Battleship Yamato. The Americanized version was called Star Blazers, and it’s original U.S. run on afternoon t.v. was from 1979-1984.

And yes, it was my favorite cartoon ever.

The live action version of Space Battleship Yamato was released in Japan on Dec. 1, 2010. I don’t know when it will become available (legally) in the US, but I’ll be one of the first in line to pick up a copy.

Here’s a description of the movie:

It is the year 2194. The Gamilons, an enemy of undetermined form, begin an invasion of Earth. The nations of Earth pool their forces and fight back, but their armies are defeated and most of humanity wiped out.

Five years later, in 2199, the Earth has been polluted by space-to-planet bombs, and those who remain alive have fled underground. Even the former top pilot, Susume Kodai, has left the military. One day as he is exploring aboveground, a mysterious object falls out of the sky. This is a communications capsule from the planet of Iscandar, 148 000 light years distant. Apparently, on Iscandar there is equipment that will eliminate the radiation. The Defense Force of Earth equips the Space Battleship Yamato with a previously unknown propulsion system, a “wave-motion engine” based on plans found in the capsule. Kodai rejoins the Force, and resolves to set out aboard the Yamato. With the fate of the Earth in their hands, the crew blasts off for distant Iscandar. They have one year until radiation drives humanity to extinction. Kodai’s great battle has begun. Carrying humanity’s last hope with it, the Yamato blasts off!

Author Video – Mark Jeffrey on “Hey”

From the video page on YouTube:

Mark Jeffrey is author of “The Pocket and the Pendant,” a novel geared towards young adult readers. Mark self-published the magical realism-themed story in paperback form on Lulu.com, and then followed it up with a free audiobook on Podiobooks.com that he narrated himself. The audiobook became an underground sensation, eventually getting more than 2 million downloads. He’s now leveraged that success into a book deal. The reworked, re-edited book is being published in hardcover form by HarperCollins, to be released May 1, 2011.

In his day job, Mark is CEO of the ThisWeekIn.com live-streaming and podcast network that he started with Jason Calacanis, Kevin Pollak and others.

Find out more about Mark at MaxQuickSeries.com, ThisWeekIn.com, and @markjeffrey on Twitter.

Movie Trailer – Vampire in the Hole

SYNOPSIS
Vampirism is a newly discovered viral illness whose initial stages spread as quickly as the flu. May has just turned seventeen and has become infected. She is the only vampire in her family and her neighborhood and, as such, her life changes dramatically. In her daily surroundings she is now seen as a monster: kids throw stones at her and she is bullied at work. However, May tries to adapt by following the rules and norms set by the government on infected citizens who wish to fit back into society.

While it definitely looks like they had more than a dollar, it is still a small budgeted independent film that looks awesome to me!

A Dance With Dragons, the long-awaited fifth book in the fantasy series, was made available for pre-order on Amazon.com just a couple of hours later.
